Hey! I'm Jinny. I'm a mom, a metalhead, an artist, a perimenopausal maniac (sometimes)... and I think skincare is a central part of health and self-care.

But over the years, I kept coming across the same four issues:

  1. Horrible ingredients that make skincare an ongoing battle rather than a pleasant, effective routine.
  2. Anti-aging rhetoric designed to make people (especially women) feel horrible about ourselves—as though aging is something to be ashamed of, feared, and kept secret at all costs.
  3. Lack of environmental and social accountability.
  4. Ugly packaging, meaning my countertop was always a cluttered disaster zone and the aesthetic didn't feel like "me."

In short, I got sick of feeling like my skincare didn’t align with my values, goals, and personality. So I decided to start my own brand.

I started by taking all the courses I could get my hands on—skincare science, skincare formulation, cosmetic product development, you name it. I spoke to myriad professionals in the space, and found manufacturing partners to work with who shared my vision and values. I knew it wouldn't be easy (in fact, several people [all men] told me I was wasting my time), but I felt armed, ready, and determined to bring something new to the skincare space.

A smiling woman with gray hair pulled back, wearing a dark navy tank top, holds up three matte black cylindrical bottles in a storage room with cardboard boxes and shelves in the background.

It took a lot of trial and error, and a lot of refusing to compromise.

Making sure my products are vegan and cruelty-free, my ingredients are clean, my packaging is sustainable AND looks amazing... It wasn't an easy list of boxes to tick. So often, it seemed like I couldn't have everything I wanted in one set of products.

But I stuck with it, and ultimately my four pain points became the beating heart of Stone + Star.

  • Purple logo with text that describes Stone + Star's core values (product, planet, purpose, and personality) on a white background
  • A promotional graphic for a women-owned skincare brand with six purple circular badges on a dark forest background. The badges read: Cruelty Free, Vegan Skincare, Women Owned, Clean Ingredients, 100% of profits donated, Activists that work, Sustainable packaging, and Made in the USA.

The resulting products are AMAZING. They work, they have a soul, and they look killer on the shelf. I'm so happy with the brand I've created—and I'm even happier that you're here!
