I think skincare is a central part of health and self-care. But over the years, I kept coming across the same four issues:
- Horrible ingredients that make skincare an ongoing battle rather than a pleasant, effective routine.
- Anti-aging rhetoric designed to make women feel horrible about ourselves—as though aging is something to be ashamed of, feared, and kept secret at all costs.
- Lack of environmental and social accountability.
- Ugly packaging, meaning my countertop was always a cluttered mess!
In short, I got sick of feeling like my skincare didn’t align with my values, goals, and personality.
So I decided to start my own skincare brand.
I started by taking all the courses I could get my hands on—skincare science, skincare formulation, cosmetic product development, you name it. I spoke to myriad professionals in the space, and found manufacturing partners to work with who shared my vision and values. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I felt armed, ready, and determined to bring something new to the skincare space.
Ultimately, my four pain points became the beating heart of Stone + Star.
